Me and a friend are trying to make a variant of chess that features the following setup per side:
typical 8-pawn setup
D+E file: 2 Kings
B+G file: 2 Queens
C+F file: 2 Archbishops (bishop and knight combo)
A+H file: 2 Rooks
Typical checkmate rules apply, except having two kings means there are many more checkmate possibilities, such as an undefended queen fork on two kings, or an unblockable rook skewer between two kings.
This game will have a much more drawish endgame, but it will be compensated by a much more dangerous middlegame + opening.
My only concern is that people will just try to trade off pieces and get down to a drawn endgame.
Also, that pawns wont have very much significance in a game full of heavy hitters...
Help me figure this out guys. I'm not an expert on variants, but I've never heard of a two-king per side game. I think it's interesting, because it makes the game much more dangerous and controlling the center is much weirder.
POST plz
Thx,
