4th OTB tournament game

Another draw. I don't know how to feel about this one. Got a draw although my pawn structure was all over the place. Thought my opponent could have gone on and won too.

Any comments are appreciated.

You say "I played 2...d6 because I was apprehensive of ...Nc6 3.Bb5 Nd4 4. Nxd4 exd4 and doubled pawns".  Nc6 Bb5 is the start of the Ruy Lopez, which is the most heavily analysed opening in chess.

your next note, "Here I was thinking to play ...Nxd4 10. Qxd4 Nh5. Opted against it.", good thing you didn't do that line, cause you would leave the rook on h8 hanging to a Qxh8, and your queen on d8 hanging.  Based on how well you played, I think there was a problem with your comment.

45. Kf6 seems like the wrong way for your king to go, I would have thought long and hard about Kd5...  f4 was a weakening move for white, you could play Rg1 at some point, and then his rook gets tied to its defense.  I think you have good winning prospects at that point in the game.

I think you played a very solid game.

tbischel, Nh5 protects the bishop on g7. Regardless, it still seems like a wasted opportunity as his opponent can easily reroute his queen to guard his hanging bishop on g5.

I'm not sure about that final analysis. It seems like your connected pawn majority is dangerous. I mean sure he can play Rg8 -> Rg5 but he needs the time to do it. In the same time it takes him to do that you can play Ra5 -> Ra2+ -> Rg2

I'm no expert but it looks very drawish to me. I don't see the h pawn queening even if black decides to take h5. His rook is in front of the pawn with nowhere to go to protect it. Say he plays h6 and you move Kg7, then what does he do? He drops the pawn to the black rook. He can't go to f8 to take the f pawn as the king is reaching out to that square too. In some variations I can even see all the pawns and rooks on the Kingside coming off, then white having some problems with those two pawns on the queenside. Anyways, yeah, without any rash unwarranted piece captures, it's probably just a draw.
