A beginner asking for advice.

Hello. I started learning chess just a few months ago, but I've got really interested in developing my play style. At the moment, my Elo is somewhere between 600 and 700. This is a game I played today against the computer (easy, 800), where I had a big early game advantage but I messed up in midgame. Although I ended up winning, I wasn't happy about how I did it. Maybe someone could take a look at the game and give me some advice about how to improve my mid and endgame strategy. Thank you! :)

Obviously move 5 is a ridiculous error for black, he can block with bishop knight or pawn.

Move 8 isn't good either for black, Ke8 or Rf8 block your knight taking on f7.

10. Did you just miss his bishop?

You should still be easily winning though.

Honestly it doesn't really need analysis, you know you shouldn't take there with your queen.

Okay, you are an honest beginner and such should be supported.  However, other than the general play with your eyes advice and always ask yourself (whether attacking or definding) "now, what can he do?".

The only specific advice you may receive here is how to buy a better program.

Click on LEARN and then click on STUDY PLANS. Start doing the Daily Puzzle, Tactics Trainer, Computer Workout etc. Don't worry about not being able to solve problems and puzzles for now, after you see several hundred of 'em you'll begin acquiring "pattern recognition" for some handy basics such as backrank mates, smothered mates, X-Ray Attacks, Diversion etc.

Check out my blogs on endgames. Many endgame principles are applicable to  middlegames and even openings. And once you learn a particular type of endgame such as K+P vs K you can rest assured no one will come up with any radical new developments like in opening theory, which is really hard to keep up with nowadays  http://blog.chess.com/RoboRoy

GOOD LUCK!

First you must get rid of the obvious blunders. After every move, new pieces will be under attack, and you need to look closely at every single-move threat before you can improve.

I would advise putting the computer on a harder setting. If you want to improve, set the computer so it is beating you at least 75% of the time. It doesn't help you become a better player if it is throwing away its queen for no apparent reason. It needs to challenge you to stop and think hard about the position on every move, or else you are not getting the full benefit from using a program.

Remember that computers don't play like human players.

One novelty and they're out. Just try a fiancetto, doubled knights or anything a computer may not expect and and you'll have an early advantage over most computers.

Playing human players is a much better way to practice.

JimmyRustles lets see some game of yours where you beat Houdini, Firebird, Fritz or some other world-class program with a novelty.

Honestly he played a perfectly good opening with the pawn move: the Pirc i played it many times myself. Leads to a usually equal position, if not kind of boring.

My biggest advice to you is to play with a broader view of the board. After every move you make check for any piece your opponent can take and make sure he cant take it unanswered. Some advice i have: if your playing online chess use the analyze button, make your move and check for any takes he has.

For live, take the piece and hold it over the position you want it. Dont drop it: check for any loose pieces.

I would suggest studying some basic tactics. In fact, go to chesstactics.org and do some of the puzzles they have (and some of the lessons). they are perfect for a beginner. I myself used this (i was rated 600 blitz and 700 standard.)

Now, after studying this website, i am rated almost 1300 and still climbing.

Is that what I said?

Did I actually say "I beat Fritz with this method, you know?"

No, I just said computers are vulnerable to novelties.
