A game of mine

Any notes would be useful

Loomis

5. Nf5. By far the most popular choice here among strong players is 5. Nb5. As you note in your annotations, black can play 5. ... d5

8. g4 "Attack!" Well, this move didn't actually do any real attacking. Probably because you don't have any development advantage. I don't see why you would be attacking here, or how this move helps you attack.

26. Bd4. Cute that he can't take, but moving the bishop to this square doesn't actually help you at all.

Best advice I can give is for you to post a game you lost. You'll be able to correct a lot more mistakes from those games.

5 Nb5 (intending Nd6+, netting the bishop pair) is better as 5 ... d5 is a good answer to your move.

I disagree with Loomis.  I like 8 g4!? which is a common attacking move in the open Sicilian - designed to displace the Nf6.  I would prefer, however, to follow up by castling queenside as 10 0-0 was VERY risky!

The immediate 26 Be3 was a bit more to the point.  Although the Bd4 can't be taken - it relies solely on your opponent making a mistake and generally we shouldn't play moves like this.  Play the best move! (If only we always knew what that was!)

32 Rh7+ a nice little tactic to force a quick mate.  Another thing we always strive to do is mate in the most efficient way possible.  I hate to see, for example, schoolkids collecting lots of queens using their passed pawns before finally going for mate!

Check out my White games (preferably the ones that say "1-0" next to them!) to see how I like to play the open sicilian.

Cheers!

You won, what do you want from it?
