Hey guys! I played this game against a 2000-rated A-group player in my chess club. Any comments on the game will be highly appreciated, specially concerning strategical aspects. Thank you.

I think 15. e4 was pretty bad for a 2000. Why he didn't just continue on the queenside with 15. a4 we'll never know...

Anyway, you already know that 11. ... Bxf3 and 12. ... Bb8 were innaccurate, as it's rarely good to give up the bishop pair or mobility.

Instead of 16. ... Rd8, you could play 16. ... Nxe4; 17. Bxe4 Nf6; 18. Bd3 (or Bf3) Nd5; which would at least gain some time or give you a strong, centralized knight. Furthermore, it would prevent 17. Nd6 (which didn't actually get played).

I think he's wrong about 19. Qf3 -- ... Qxe4; 20. Qb7 would equalize for black, freeing up the bishop on b8, backing up the queenside pawns, protecting the rook on a8, controlling the white squares, etc. Better would be the simple 19. Bd3.

19. ... Qb7 for the previously mentioned reasons.

22. ... Qc6 blocks the loose c-pawn, in addition to the things I keep mentioning.

26. ... Rg5; 27. Kg2 Qb8; 28. Rf3 Rd5 seems to put up some resistance, but it's lost by this point.

Thank you all for your comments!

ManicDragon: I agree with most of what you say, but I do think 15. e4! is a good move. Notice that if I had played 14. ... e5 I'd have some room to breathe. I haven't got many possibilities on the queenside, and 15. e4 just shuts it for me.

Yea, I should've played Qb7 at some point. Missed it.

I believe the idea behind a6 is to play dxc5 then, when white recaptures with the bishop (Bxc5) to play b5, winning a temo by attacking it, followed at some point by c5.  This is typical play in similar positions in the QGD and gives black a dynamic pawn center with counterplay. The queen  bishop usually comes to b7, reinforcing control of the light squares in the center, particularly e4 where black would like to post piece, but mainly to prevent the e pawn advancing, which is a thematic move for white in these positions.  Of course c5 needs preparation, such as e6 and Nd7, etc. Have a look at some QGD games.

I think black did not play well in an organised manner.

This is the first game I am ever analyzing :) and here are my comments

Isn't 5.dxc4 the usual line?
8.0-0 seemed a good move.
11.Bxf3 seemed a bit hasty. Was Bc7 considered instead?
17.Nd6 probably would have been bit better for white instead of a4
18.Bc2 seems better than Bg2
22 - No idea why e5 is not considered.

It was a good first game for me to analyze. Thanks for that!
