   I think 8............Nxe4 is blacks best discovering an atack on whites h4 knight by the queen on e7. It looks like black steels a pawn here

  12.Nd2  there is certainly nothing wrong with this move it develops a piece

    It's a personal preference but I like  12. g4

     this solidly defends the f5 pawn and white may even play Kh1 and g5 later

white gets some nice space and although it exposes whites king a little trust me black is the one being atacked here. My move is riskier than Nd2 but still very sound and I simply bring it up as food for thought.

well other than missing that he had Nxe4 you really wernt making obvious mistakes just inacuracies

   I like the stienetz variation of the italian game it is a very organized build up and plan

   so in the game I would play

     7.c3   (whites plan is to play    c3,Nbd2,Re1,Nf1,Ng3,Bb3,Bc2  and later break with d4   its a very solid set up )

and on move 9.Nf5   I would have played

       9.Nf3   

   Its a hard thing to do admiting Nh4 was bad and wasting time retreating it again but, after Nf5...Bxf5 black has more center pawns and control and you have doubled f pawns these are permanent structural weeknesses while Nf3 looses a tempo and gives black instant equality but does NO permanent damage to the white position
