A way combat the modern defence?

The guy playing black in this game is notorious for always playing the modern defence (1...g6) against pretty much everything. So white decides to get creative, and here is the result!

I thought that a4 was a more unique move

What surpises me is the following move

4...0-0  After white has just played 4.Rah3. lol

What is even more funny is the fact the game lasted 35 moves.

I think 10.Qf3 wins.

10...f6 11.Bd3 Qe8 12.Qh3 Nb4 (12...Kf7 13.Bxg6+ Kxg6 14.Qh5#) 13.Rh8+ Bxh8 (13...Kf7 14...Bxg6+) 14.Qh7#

10...f6 11.Bd3 Kf7 12.Bxg6+! Kxg6 13.Qh3 f5 14.Qh5+ Kf6 15.g5+

But 4...d5 and just never castling and playing ....h5 whenever h4 actually looks like a threat would be a problem because you'd have two rooks that are really hard to get out.

Why not just try something simpler like 1.e4 d6 2.d4 Nf6 3.Nc3 g6 4.Be2 Bg7 5.g4? Another trick you can try against the Pirc/Modern is 1.e4 d6 2.d4 g6 3.Nc3 Bg7 4.f3 a6 5.a4. The idea is to attack on the kingside but without castling. It's dangerous because castling is good but if they don't seek tactical chances then you'll probably win. If they do then you'll have to calculate a lot of stuff.

This game is just painful to see :(

Modern and ancient defense aside, black should have castled queenside, seeing that very early rook lift. Instead, he went on to immediately castle when white was connecting his rooks on that side.

"Come on then! Catch me if you can!"

"Yeah, just wait a dozen moves and I'd like seeing your face again."

There's always some hope though ;)

This is the problem of being too predictable and unwilling to change evan if your opponent plays a4 haha
