Opening pretty solid...

opponent loses queen...

17...Rxg8 - opponent misses chance at your queen...

It seems that you pounced on your opponent's mistakes quickly, although he also missed a couple of yours.

Your opening was a little more organized.

Hope that helps!

You're such a beginning player that analysing this game wouldn't help much, I'd think. When you start thinking at least one or two moves ahead is when you check your games afterword. Moves like 17. Qxb6 shouldn't happen. Play more, instead.

Well. IMHOs, I'd say that your initial development wasn't bad.  I'd have played pd4 on move 2 to get the middle established quickly.  But your opponent let you get his queen on the sixth move and then you gave it back on move 17 but he didn't take it!!  You chased his king right away when you had the chancwe and kept the pressure on---I thought that that was the right thing to do---all IMHO.  Keep playing.

1. e4 e6 2. d4 is the basic setup for the Pirc Defense. Now usually black goes either 2. ... e5 or Nf6.

Now I see no reason for 2. ... e6 instead of 2. ... e5. I guess this was an inaccuracy from your opponent.

6. ... Kxd8 is a strategical mistake. Takes away own castle, instead of bringing a rook into the middle of the action with Rxd8. Then Kd7-c8 is basically a waste of time, that reduces the mobility of his own pieces, while you went on and developed your pieces. Good job!

9. Qc1 - why did you play this move? Doesn't really seem to do anything. Perhaps more logical is 9. Qe2, connecting the rooks and allowing a Ba3 whenever appropriate, aiming at the king.

Another thing to be said: When you have a huge material advantage, like by move 20 of this game, you do not need to be a pawngrabber! Just put your pieces into play and calmly win - your queen, alone, is not going to do anything.

As someone said - play games, until you get the basics. If you want to accelerate the process, get a book on tactics. It does wonders ;)

After a few moves, a poor man's French.  The problem is the level of competition.  I would suggest practice on a computer program, like the one on the main page at this site.

Um, your opponent hung his queen?
