Analysis Board: tool or crutch?

As a beginner I do a lot better in daily chess than faster chess, mainly because I spend a good while before each move tinkering with the analysis board. I also spend a while after each game going over the computer analysis.

My question is: would you say such heavy use of the analysis board is a good tool for developing the ability to see multiple moves ahead or do you think it's a crutch that can keep you from developing that skill?
