Nice game and sac! I only took a quick look, but it looks like black is in real trouble after 15. Bxf7+ no matter what he does. White will quickly equalize in material and have a great game if black plays optimally. Try an engine if you can and see what it says. Would be interesting to find out.
Analysis on this sacrifice
I'm not sure if it works actually. If black plays Ke7, followed by Qe6 and possibly Rd8 he may force an exchange, or otherwise at least keep his pieces defended. It may be worthwhile taking a deeper look into, this is only a quick analysis of let's say 5 minutes.
I don't think it goes anywhere if black plays Ke7 after Qc4+. 17. Rxe7 ... 18. Re1 gives white a significant positional compensation, but with no way to get his rook to the 7th rank, I think it'll just resolve with black finishing his development and winning with the material advantage. 17. Bc5+ Nxc5 18. Qc5+ Ke8 looks similarly futile. Generally no mating nets jump out at me even with ideal piece placement. White really needed that light square bishop.
the bad move is b5
Disagree. If black plays Qg6 or another queen move instead white plays Qe6+ followed by Rxd7 and white is in a won position
Hmm yeah interesting analysis so far, I mean Ke7 is certainly stronger than e8.
I think the best plan is to check again on b4 and then take the b-pawn, doubling rooks on the d-file and not letting him get developed. I mean I guess I could take all his queenside pawns, but I think the pressure on the d-file is more important.
For people who aren't getting why Ke8 is inferior, it leaves the e6 square undefended so the black queen can't get back to the center of the board and be a part of the defense. That is why b4 is a forcing move in the Ke8 line but would just lose in the Ke7 line.
I think black is fine after 16...Ke7, but then again i didnt put a lot of effort into looking at this.
usually these sort of murky sacrifices only work if there's a significant positional gain as compensation - positional sacs as opposed tactical ones. without any immediate compensation, black doesn't seem to have any real problems developing after Ke7 and his extra piece will come back and win the game for him (probably). as was mentioned, White's light squared bishop was a strong piece and it doesn't feel right to give it up in this scenario.
Hey everybody! I just played this 15/0 game and was curious as to if you could all take a crack at helping me analyze the consequences of my sacrifice. My opponent heavily misplayed after i made it, but I'm not sure who is better.
Does my initiative prevail or his defenses?
