apparently it is possible to have less accuracy than your opponent and still win

The winner is the person who makes the next-to-last mistake.

a mistake doesn't nessecarily damage your accuracy by 10 points but depending on the severity of the mistake and the amount, it can make your accuracy lower although you won the game

This is true.

Your opponent can have 100% accuracy and you can still win the game...by resignation.

This could have been a wise observation, then you ruined it by the last two words.

yes but then again it's nigh impossible to get pure 100%

It is if the opponent plays some book moves and then resign

Better than ruining posts from the beginning, I guess.

@btickler is very wise

Yes.  You could also win by timeout even if your opponent has 100% accuracy.

Avatar of ZaiFaLi

very very true, @CoreyDevinPerich

Especially if a teenager rings your doorbell, screams "OPEN NA NOOR", then runs away in the middle of your chess game. I was playing so well before I timed out.

I don't know if it is still the case, but some years ago you could win by checkmate with the opponent showing 100% accuracy. Like the Fools mate: white plays all book moves, 100%.

Avatar of ZaiFaLi
