On the second move, play Nf6 instead of g6. That will prevent Q moving to d5 to take the rook.
Can a pinned piece still attack a King?

A pinned piece can give check, but only if removing that piece doesn't put you in a check position yourself. So if a bishop is pinning your own bishop to the king, you can't move that bishop for a check, checkmate or any other move :P
If it's pinning your bishop to your queen for example, you can move it all your own bishop all you like.

You can't move a piece that's pinned to the king, but it still can check the opponents king if it doesn't have to move to do it.

Whoops. now I see that Q f1 is mate. oh well it was a 10 min game, mistakes happen.
So, check out my final position (black). I won this game, but only because my pinned bishop on e2 was able to attak the white King's escape route on f3. However, I can't move this bishop, so I guess a pinned piece can still give check. Just never realized it before. This was one of the more interesting games I played. If you want to see some strange things, please look it over. Also, I tend to get killed by tricky openings like this one... some how I managed this time, but what do you recommend against these white Queen openings?
Above is an example of the opening trap I always fall for... please help me. THanks!
