The only move of yours I have cause to question is 8. Qh3, as your opponent missed some tactics. If instead of f5 he played 8. ..e5! he can start to gain some compensation for the piece.
For example, 8. ..e5! 9. Qg3 exd4 10. exd4 Re8+ 11. Be3 Nxe4 and black has multiple threats on the next move, namely Bd6 and dxc4.
I know it seems like a waste of tempo, but the queen needs to come back to d1 or e2.
I'm pretty sure Black had not realised that the pawn at e6 is in the path of protection, so that the c8 bishop protects the e6 pawn instead of the g4 knight.
*edit: figured out how to add game. It’s below.
I’ve been trying to work on the opening principles and not leaving any pieces undefended. Those were the goals for this game. I don’t know how to post a game I played where the board comes up and you can just click through it, so I typed it out and added my thoughts. I’d love some feedback. Thanks!
I played white
1. d4 d5
2. c4 e6
3. Nc3 Bb4
4. Bd2 Nc6 (I played this to sort of develop the bishop and to protect the knight)
5. e3 Nf6 (protecting c4)
6. Bd3 Ng4 (I wanted to develop the bishop and get ready to castle, then he made this knight move, which I determined was unprotected)
7. Qxg4 O-O ( I took it because it was free, but not super confident that I should have brought out the Queen so early)
8. Qh3 f5 ( checking to see if he would see Qh7#, and he did or blocked my bishop unintentionally)
9. Nf3 g6
10. O-O h5
11. Nh4 Qe8 (saw g6 was undefended)
12. a3 Bd6 ( I thought he would trade bishop for my knight but he retreated)
13. c5 Be7 ( I thought c5 was good as it was still defended)
14. Bb5 a6 (I thought this was good as it was defended by my knight, and I was running out of ways to develop, so I thought that this knight was really his only active piece and it would be good to get rid of it even if I had to trade for it)
15. Bxc6 Bxc6
16. Qg3 Ra7 (I still thought g6 was the weak link)
17. Nxg6 Rf7 (I thought after he moved his rook I could move the knight and have a discovered check)
18. Nxe7+ Kh7 (I was proud of the last two moves, and it ultimately lead to the win, however I feel like I didn’t get enough pieces involved)
19. Qg6+ Kh8
20. Nxc8 Rf8
21. Qh6+ Kg8
22. Nxa7 Black resigns
