Christiansen Bromberger - a Quatari Romance

I will work through the game myself in more detail, but, for now, I'm posting it just as a PGN for the masses. This is one of those games that will end up in books, articles, puzzles, and memories. It's certainly imperfect (though I haven't scrubbed it with an engine yet), but any game that ends with the aesthetic notation ...Q8d3+ needs to be brought to the world's attention. Proof positive that at least one Grandmaster out there is still swashbuckling like it's 1802:

I just watched the round 4 video. Svidler and Ramirez are like "wtf, no one knows what's going on" and just moves on to the next game. Amazing game.

Well, if a top player like Svidler does not know what's going on, I can stop feeling bad about being in the same boat.

Maybe white should take the pawn on g5 on move 4, then if black continues as in the game, 4... e5 he has 5d3.  It might stop the N being driven around so much.

And also maybe 6 N-h3.

My impression is a computer will find a clear path for white to emerge winning early.  But white gets too greedy and is lost by about move 20.  Of course I could be wrong.

The Chess24 engine means it's first at move 22 white goes wrong, a3 is given as slight advantage white, the played e3 is given as below -6.

Social Panda- If I understand the numbers right, the moves from both side were all reasonable until a losing blunder by white with 22 e3??.

And the engines don't like whites knight manouvres early, thinking [or whatever they do] the N should go to c5 on move 7.  I said something vaguely similar in my other post.

With several engines used, I think that's about as close to definitive as we are likely to get.  I mean unless Carlsen or someone looks at it closely.

Yes joyntjezebel, that´s how you interpret the numbers generated by the engines Smile

3...g5 comes directly from the computer world, and was first played a few years ago by David Navara. A few strong players have adopted it, so it can't be that bad...

seems they found a line that's not drawish, now they can't complain :-p
