You need to change your settings to allow more analysis. Click the board icon on the bottom left of your diagram, go to the move in question, and it will analyze. Click the setting wheel and select infinite analysis time, give it 20-30 seconds and you'll see that be2 is fine, a strong move that stockfish likes. Stockfish very slightly prefers qe2 or qf3 preparing queenside castling with h3 and be3. Conceptually, one can see the black has transferred a knight to the kingside, which will become very congested, perhaps eventually aiding a pawn storm. Perhaps more importantly, with no knight on c6, e5 will be possible, further congesting black. Qe2 not only facillitates queenside castling, it supports e5. Castling queenside will also be safe, as black has no pieces there, and allow white to advance the kingside pawns if it makes sense to do so.
Stockfish also likes bd2, which aims to castle queenside and save a move by skipping h3. Qe2 or Qf3 will still be played.
Hi there! So I recently got a membership to be able to use the computer analysis. It does help me to show me the blunders that I made or missed opportunities. However, often times I cannot understand why the computer suggests a certain move.
Here is a game I just played as white, the opening went like this:
Now here I would play Be2, to double up with Bishop and Queen against his Knight. The computer says it's "good", however the best move appears to be Qd3. This I simply do not understand. Looking at the line that the computer has calculated for this move, black should respond to Qd3 with a6. This led me thinking that the idea of Qd3 could have been to follow it up with Qb5, hence why black should play a6 to defend the square. However, I do not see what Qb5 would do. Yes it is a check, but easily defended by black.
Can anyone explain the idea behind Qd3 and why it is better than Be2?
Also, do you have general advice on how I can increase the learning effect from the computer analysis? What can I do in future to better understand why the computer suggests certain moves?
Thank you
