Confrontations on and off the board

This was quite a long game because of both the time control [40/90 followed by 30/60 no sudden death] and just the shear number of moves. My opponent was somewhat less than friendly, infact, to put it bluntly, he was a total jerk! There were several disputes throughout the game. (I'll cover more details in the annotation.)

11...Be7 How and why does this "defend Nc6"? What would anybody's Knight be doing moving to c6 here? Forgive me if I'm missing something that's obvious to you

30...Rc8 "The following sequence is forced" - Why is 31...Qf8 forced? Why not 31...Kd7 instead?

50. Kxa2 "My opponent doesn't reign right away either". He doesn't reign at all, apparently! (Yes, I know, typo, but still :D)

53. ...Ke5 "Without even waiting for me to make my next move my opponent resigns the game and storms out of the room."

I'm trying to decide what'd be more satisfying, that or the more traditional handshake. The civilised person in me says the handshake, but there's a part that would enjoy seeing such a sore loser humiliate himself with such a display of poor sportsmanship.

Hi, if he doesn't do something like Be7 then I'll play Nc6+ (a discovery with my queen winning his queen). And I supposed it's not forced in the strictist sence of the word, but after Kd7 Qxg4 the result is practically the same.

It looks like you were right about his passing up the better idea of a perpetual by repetition...this probably got him steamed. Then  he can't calculate that he is LOST by just counting squares. So he's mad at himself and can't figure why he's losing to, of all people, you...and lashes out when you call the TD to enforce the rules of chess, which he should have known.

(By the way, as a TD, I would be tempted to toss some clown if he asked to see a rule after I told him to knock of the BS.)

So, the story is: you were paired against an immature person with an out of control ego. As long as you didn't stoop to his level, you can feel good about your game and your sportsmanship.

Ah, I'd missed the discovered check. Thanks.

Sure.
