Considering buying deep fritze 14

Is it worth it for £50.

I saw that it was 100 elo points behind rybka 4.1 which uses four core's.

My computer has 8 cores and deep fritze supports up to 8 cores.

Any suggestion's?

I know that stockfish and komodo are the best engines but what I need is a descent GUI and does it really matter that much for a lowly rated player such as myself if the engine is number 1?

Stockfish doesn't have a GUI. It's just an engine. I own Fritz 13. It's my main chess program. It has many features aside from it's chess engine. I use a number of engines to analyze games in Fritz including the latest Stockfish iteration. Fritz has many teaching aides, a database function, etc.

I would ask what program are you using now? And what are you hoping to use Fritz for? Do a search on Youtube for Fritz 13 tutorials and you'll find a bunch of vids that go over much of what the program can do. As I understand it, Fritz 14's main difference is engine improvement so the 13 vids should be pretty accurate.

This is the Chessbase Youtube channel. Scroll down to "Fritz 13" and there are a number of vids that explain the basic functions and ability's of Fritz. That should give you a solid idea of the programs capability. Hope that helps....

is this a new engine? like the new version of deep fritz?

Actually it's two different words, with different pronunciations.

Fritz rhymes with bits, and is an engine.

Fritze rhymes with Nietzsche, and, like Nietzsche, is also a philosopher who is very deep.

Fritz Nietzsche? I never said anything about Fritz Nietzsche. The OP wants to buy Deep Fritze, which I'm assuming is a deep book written by the philosopher.

No, that's Nietzsche. Fritze and Nietzsche are two totally different people.

Ah, I see. Thanks for clarifying :)

No.  It does nothing important that you can't get with free software.  Get Scid vs. PC for database work and Lucas Chess for training work.  Forget Fritz and ChessBase.

Thanks.

I used to own deep Rybka which has the same GUI as fritze 13/14 but did not get to know the program very well.

I had already checked out some of them vids for some instruction.

Maybe I should get fritz 13 (saving money) and then buy komodo engine after

Personnally I would not get anything better than DEEP FRITZ 12.  It allows more cores than SHALLOW FRITZ 14.

Shallow Fritz 14 only allows 4 cores per the Chessbase Website.  DEEP FRITZ 12 supports up to 16 cores.

The more cores then the faster it gets to a deep move horizon such as 21 or 23 ply.

Cores clocks and cache = more kn/s.
