Did this guy take me seriously?

Do you think so? Going 2-3 against a 2000 who hung some basic mates is very lucky, IMO

I agree, someone else probably got him all the points. He himself doesn’t even have half the skill of a 2000 rated player (judging by the games you two played)
alphaous

Yeah, and he doesn't have enough convincing wins against 2000s to prove strength.

alphaous

Fair enough. That would explain @10six.  But the checkmate he hung in the game I posted was so basic, and he wasn't even premoving.

alphaous

But then again, it could be good luck that he made an oversight.

alphaous

Oof. Yeah, you're probably right.

alphaous

True. He should still play close to his strength even without focusing, though

bullet games have a normal fluctuation of about +- 200. In blitz, it is about +- 100. While it is mostly luck, that is only to you. In chess, you make your own luck by playing certain moves.

Not true, some only play rated when playing at their best and therefore keep their "peak" rating.

alphaous

Really? I thought you could play close to your strength off of instinct. Am I just wrong? I used to be able to play blitz casually and not lose many rating points.

I bet I could pretty much adopt a 1400 in 1|0 while opening with a queen sac every game...

I mean, maybe I'm wrong, it's not like I play 1400s to know, but...

I don't know about the 'little brother' hypothesis - he's making some 2000 moves but is not sharp overall, maybe he's eating noodles. But you played quite well - could be you just took him by surprise.

alphaous

This has been going on for years, so I don't know.
