Try to move into a position where you can block the check with your queen... I think it's the only way out...
Excuse me, I think this is cheating. This Stecan is about to lose a game now because his opponent got help from outside.
TheDarkLord asks for a clarification, and what he gets is advice on a game that is still going on. I don't think that's fair to both players.
Margreet,
I did not ask for help with how to beat him, Piz and Johnny have just looked at the game and decided to give obvious advice rather than answer the question, and that was "is what he doing right?". I also think that it is unfair for Piz and Johnny to assume that I need help playing a "current game", and then give advise so now it seems like what they have said gives me new direction. They have simply stated the most obvious advice that all of you were thinking when you looked at the game.
If they did not know the answer like me, they should just follow the post and learn something new.
Please dont post advice as I am not asking for it, I just simply wanted to know peoples thoughts on the situation.... and any possible clarification. And I think Ivandh has anwsered it........
"draw by perpetual check"
TheDarkLord, you should have waited until the game was over to post your question. Otherwise you are asking for advice regarding an ongoing game. You asked people to look at your game and tell you what they think. You could have made a more generic statement without reference to your game, "Is it wrong to keep someone constantly in check to avoid losing?"
And there is no such thing as "draw by perpetual check" in the rules of chess. There is a draw by 3-fold repetition. If the same position is reached 3 times, a draw may be claimed. Checking someone repeatedly is one way of achieving a repeat of a position.
I never asked for advice, I asked for clarification, it is not my fault that people including yourself just assume I am asking for help.
Sorry that I did not ask my question in such a way that a 3rd grader could understand.
Next time I make a post I will state that I am available to hold peoples hands and I will also leave my cell phone so that people can me at all hours of the night to ask me what my post means, because they are to ignorant to read English.
You can't expect people to be mind readers. Your original post was unclear at best.
No less than 5 people responded with advice on what to do in your game. I'm sure this is only a fraction of the people that interpreted your post to be asking for such. Ever think that perhaps the problem isn't in their ability to understand but perhaps in your ability to be clear?
You specifically referenced your ongoing game. You could have just as easily asked your question without reference to a game you were playing.
Regarding asking advice on an on-going game: I agree with Loomis that it is not right, but I think it would be OK to ask whether a player is following the rules if you are in doubt about that. I was actually careful in my former post to write something that would not be an advice what to actually do, but rather a statement of the rules, but I admit I was hesitating to comment at all on an on-going game. Below - in blue letters - is a quote of what I wrote. The first sentence in the quote is just on the edge on what you could say regarding an on-going game, but it is obviously the only possibilities available and shouldn't make any difference on the game. What I really meant by posting it is that there is no other way than that because your opponent is doing absolutely nothing wrong. The rest of the answer is a plain reflection of the rules:
"You either need to find a way to escape the checks or take the draw. If no piece gets taken or no pawn gets moved in 50 moves in a row it is a draw if the draw is claimed when that happens per the rules of chess. So in this case if he gives checks with the queen 50 times in a row (without taking any piece) it is a draw if your opponent claims the draw at that point."
A little clarification: "If no piece gets taken" means any capture including pawn capture.
The original post was not written clearly and could imply a request for aid in an on going game. I was wrong to have offered advice toward the situation at hand and apologize for that. Lesson learned; will not reoccur in the future.
I think The Dark Lord's initial intentions were good, only the original message could have been easily misconstrued by the lamen (which in this case was me). Perhaps more time could be taken in the future when posing a question if you would like to negate the possibiliy of other's offering advice. Writing is often analized over and over for centuries and even 100 years later new opinions arise as to what the actual meaning behind the writing is. All advice offered above is sensible and should be considered.
(Agreed): Requesting opinions regarding rules to the game is acceptable at any time but not about a situation in a presently active game.
please, if you need help with an ongoing game, contact support. :)
TheDarkLord - you didn't do anything wrong. but it is hard for people to NOT give advice, so best just to contact support for questions in on-going games.
thanks!
Can you guys look at my game with Stecan and let me know what you think? I am stuck to the point where he puts me in check every move, becaue he knows that if he doesnt he will lose. He offered me a draw but I did not take it. I am not sure if what he is doing is correct, it just seems wrong to me.
