This is my 3rd round game from Torbay Congress which I played this afternoon. I lost and was incredibly gutted because I was incredibly sure I had something at many points, but then again I

was really hoping everyone could give me a hand on working out why... The grades given are BCF!

P.S. I was white.

I just think you tried to build an attack too early, but I dont want to say anymore because I'll just get slammed on no doubt.

I'd recommend the Rossolimo variation of the Sicilian for you in future mate. You'd love the positions that arise from it.

1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 d6 3. Bb5+ Nc6 4. d4 cxd4 5. Qxd4 Bd7 6. Bxc6 Bxc6 7. Nc3 Nf6 8. Bg5 e6 9. 0-0-0 Qc7 10. Kb1 or some system like that.

Why play in Blacks yard in a complex opening when you can make them feel uncomfrtable with this kind of Anti-Sicilian line?

BTW What were the time controls? That might have some bearing on peoples opinions. :)

Sorry I think you were losing since you lost/saced peice with 11Bh6. Think you should just play 11.0.0.0.

Don't make hopeful sacrifices, unless you're playing very short time controls.  Unless you can see a winning combination in full, and completely understand how you are going to get a win, dont give away your pieces.  This is also the best way to improve because you have something solid to build upon.  You can learn more tricky tactics trying to win material, and keep hold of your own, and you can also learn more subtle positional things which would make no sense if you don't value material.  For example, how can you learn to force your opponent's pieces around, if you are of the opinion that it is ok for him to just give them up.

I think you lost because you gave up a piece, ok put it down to miscalculation or being trigger happy or something, fine, keep playing and see how the game goes, but then you give away the exchange for nothing.  This leaves you a full rook down and after black successfully defends your attack you can resign with a clear conscience.

frenchie, thanks for the help but when I have played that line or seen it played before but instead of Nc6 on move 3, most people would play Bd7 I think & the time control was 36 moves in 90 minutes and then an extra half an hour!

hypertroll you were watching the game as it happened so...!

TwoMove i understand what you are saying and you are probably right but however, I think if I had'nt played Rxd4 I definitly had a nice attack building up with the pawns being pushed and maybe swinging my other rook over!

sstteevveenn, I think you hazve got it spot on!
