General Principles

Hi guys, this is a game that was played under an interesting dynamic that really highlighted a problem that I have.

The unusual dynamic was time related. On move 27 I disconnected for just over 6 minutes. As a side note, I have no idea why the game wasn't awarded to my opponent after 5 minutes. Anyway, when I reconnected I had 25 seconds to the 13 minutes of opponent.

What I am interested in learning, are any tips or principles that you guys apply to avoid Queen checks/tricks in open positions in your games. Namely, guidlines for where to place my King, what pawn structures are best and where to place my pieces in relation to my King to stop any tricks.

Under time pressure, in this game I chose to stop any back rank threats at the cost of opening up my King. I don't know if that was the right decision or not.

This was a 15|10 game that I recently played on this website's live servers.

If you see any other mistakes then please do tell me, but I am posting this primarily for the reasons stated above. The game itself isn't that important. Thank you.

I think that the general principle is that you need more than 10 seconds per move to avoid all the little mistakes that will kill you in that type of endgame.

So, no thoughts on weak back rank vs fianchettoing my King? Tactical mistake, fair enough. You'll probably find several of those in most of my games.

Anything to to guide me in the future, whether I'm under time pressure or not? I'm not focusing on the individual tactical blunders, but rather avoiding presenting my opponent with so many tricks to try in the first place.

"avoiding presenting my opponent with so many tricks to try in the first place."

"I chose to stop any back rank threats at the cost of opening up my King"

Both of these problems can be avoided if you give up fear of being checked and play as if to threaten the opponent itself..dynamically not defensively ..

One example which I can give u is move 48.

u played 48 .Qf3

instead 48.Rf3 ! puts more pressure on yur opponent by threatening the f7 square !

48.Rf3 Rxe5 49.Rd2 Qe6 50.Qe4

Play dynamically? I appreciate the effort but what you're suggesting is surely the opposite of what White should do. Why would I play for complications when I'm playing off the increment and Black has ~15 minutes? I want to keep the position as simple as possible.

Well 48.Rf3 is not hard to find though and interesting when u have a win in hand then why let go of it..48.Qf3 just allows black to dominate...u might lose anyway

regarding that u need to think faster to not allow winning games get away

I disconnected. I'm also not interested in individual blunders. I want advice regarding general principles that will help me, in particular, ones that will help me avoid checks and tricks.

Not only is the OP rude here, but he is insulting during game play.
