There is no "ideal" value. It's simply a measure of how reliable the system thinks your rating is. If it's over 100, not very reliable and the system will give or take away more points in a game result to try and bring you closer to your rating. Under 50 is very reliable, so your rating won't move much for either a win or a loss. Probably better explanations available if you were to google it or do a Search Forums. I think there's even a Wiki with the math.
