How do I improve? ~1100 ELO

I'm stuck at this rating. Please, take a look at this game and tell me how I can improve!

For me the jump from ~1000 to 1400 was mainly practicing tactics, and playing slow games.

I would suggest the "Online Chess" on this site. However, I wouldn't get more than a few games going at a time so that you can really focus on deep calculation. Also, try not to use the "Analyze" or "Explore" buttons. When it's your turn to move... just stare at the board and visualize the moves in your head. That way you're not cheating yourself into a higher Elo.

You seem to enjoy live chess quite a bit, so keep doing that... but I might suggest playing longer time controls. Perhaps 15-30 min games.

So... "Online Chess" for deep calculation. "Live Chess" for when you don't have a move ready in "Online Chess" and want something to do.

Also, I tend to study (viewing GM games, looking at my own games, practicing tactics, etc...) about 75% of the time, and play only around 25% of the time.

Focus on tactics! The Tactics Trainer on chess.com is excellent. Also, pay attention to opening principles. They are useful regardless of level.

If you have any questions about study materials don't hesitate to message me.

Best!

at every move for both players starting with your opponent look for:

checks, captures, and threats.

Train this going over your own games(wins or loses, both is good at this point), while you solve puzzles, and/or while you go over other people's games.

Of course after a while you should start to use it in your own games. For example the game you posted: 14 Nh4.. if you go over checks, captures and theats you would probably have seen you can capture Bxh4 and win a piece.

I hope you can see, how doing this could help your game. Good luck!

The game in the original post is dated Oct 21 2013, so it seems the OP was right; it is now almost 8 years later and he is still in the 1000 range.

To progress, you must think carefully about your moves and avoid mistakes.
Your problems start with playing the knight to the rim 4...Nh6, this will later lose a pawn for you. Why did not you play the natural 4...Nf6?
9...Nc6 will soon land your second knight on the rim at a6. Better 9...Nd7.
11...Nc5 should be prepared with 11...a5; now your knight just bounces back to a6
16...Qc7 just loses Bf6

Don't put knights on the rim unless it is a book move or it a tactic. Don't let your king's 3 pawns be doubled andalways look for hanging pieces.

Dear ankitsoni9,

I am a certified, full-time chess coach and International Master, so I have seen it and tried it all.
There are so many ways to get better and I know it can be overwhelming.
You can learn from free videos on youtube, there are books at your disposal that can all help, but they are not tailored to your needs.

One of the most important things you can do is to analyze your games! You must learn from your mistakes! That is a priority. You can't really move on to a new, different topic and learn new ideas if you still make the same mistakes over and over again!

This is where a chess coach comes into the picture. A good coach can show you how to study, what to study, gives you the material YOU need. Naturally, it takes time to use everything in practice, but if you are relentless and persistent you will succeed!happy.png
You should learn the main principles in every area of the game (opening, middlegame, endgame).  Don't focus on only one part! You should improve your tactical vision as well as it is part of all areas!
This how I built my training program for my students. We discuss more than one topic during a lesson so it's always interesting and they can improve constantly. I give homework too and the right tools to make practicing enjoyable and effective!happy.png
Don't worry about your rating and the ups and downs! Just keep on playing and practicing!

I hope this helps.happy.png  I wish you good games and 100+ extra ratingshappy.png

Can anybody please help me to improve

Why did you put your knight on h6? It's a terrible spot for a knight since it doesn't fight for the center, and the bishop can easily take off your knight there leaving you with a damaged pawn structure and an exposed king.

I am just 100 but I know that the best way to make someone resign is by taking their free pieces and avoiding their traps. Basically play princibled chess. I am a mere 118 but I gained that 18 after 100 when playing against a 100 player. I did the strategy and they ended up resigning , Giving me 18 more elo
