How do I stop defending and start attacking?

Hello,

I just went over the second game and, in my opinion it started going really bad after 9. Ne4. Exchanging the knight in itself might not be that bad of an idea, but the way you have to recapture by way of having your center pawn recapturing is not good.

It opens up the center for the opposing pawn to advance and pressure you, where as if you simply made another developing move, say 'Castles' or simply developing your bischop you would've had a more solid structure and have more time to focus on developing an attack of your own instead of defending.

Despite my own relatively low experience playing chess I hope this has helped out a little.

Thanks for your input.  Yes, it is very helpful, as I have a long way to go before I can play this game well.  By the way, I love your name!
