16...Qf4 and it's mate after 17...Nf1++
How sound/unsound were my sacs?
Bugger, can't believe I missed that one haha, was only looking at Nxh1+ doh
In my defence, I was hungover from around move 15 - 18
On move 17, Nf1 looks better to me than Bf4.
17. ... Nf1+ looks better to me. In response to either possible king move, Qg3+ is follewed by Qf2# on your next move. If he captures with the queen, then play Bf4+ -- you'll either end up ahead in material, or forcing a draw, assuming he doesn't blunder into a mate in 1 with Kg2??.
The rook capture also requires precise play to avoid checkmate, unless I'm missing something obvious.
Recent game I played. I did a couple of sacs in the game, although the pawn one to begin with was a poor decoy from my own analysis - ijust wanted the knight moved for one move. After that, I just charged straight for the king. I had planned a series of moves that would have led to checkmate if opponent made one wrong move, but opponent saw through my dodgy sacs and maneuvered out of it rather well I thought.
However, a couple of blunders later on in the game when position was about equal saw him resign.
So how good/bad were my sacs, and assuming opponent hadn't blundered away at the end, who do you think would have come out on top?
I've annotated some of my moves to show my (mostly drunken) thinking.
