I'm analyzing my losses... I now know I need to be at the top of my game to play at this almost 2300 level. I'm getting 70 accuracy compared to my opponents' 90+ accuracies, and they aren't cheating (you can't cheat in 3min lol)

I just keep getting soundly outplayed.

My "secret" method of calculation is pretty accurate (I just use the rating formula) and it estimates you're consistently preforming at 2280... which mean I agree with you. As long as you play when you're having a good day then you basically risk nothing (you'll stay around 2280) and you'll just need a string of good games to go to 2300.

Yeah... just played five games. Lost three, one of my opponents resigned in an equal position (he probably had to go) and the last one I drew, but I should've lost (he stalemated)

Feels like tilt, I'm not going through that again. The hardest part is probably the psychological aspect - you're ALMOST there, you're SO GOOD, but you dip down, just a little bit, but you've tasted the sweetness of success, and you want more.

Yeah, losing 3-4 in a row is a good signal to quit for a while if not the whole day.

Usually you can look at those losses the next day and think "wow, I was tilting and I didn't even know it, those moves I played were dumb"

is there some formula that can tell me if im playing above or below my rating and if so where can i find this?

I like to do it like this.

I look at my (or someone's games) by rating. So for example I searched B1Z's games for opponents rated 2200-2299 since March 1st until today and I got the win percentage (wins + 1/2 draws divided by total games).

Then you can use an Elo chart (chess.com uses Glicko, but it's really-really close to the same at least in this regard).

So let's pretend B1Z scored 55% against opponents rated 2200-2299. Now I look for "55" on the chart below.

And I see that it means the person is scoring 33-39 points higher (or lower if they're the 45).

After that you just assume 2200-2299 means the average was 2250, and you add about 35 points to get 2285.

After that you do it for a few more rating bands... B1Z basically only plays higher rated players, so I did the same process for 2300-2399.

After that you average the results. For B1Z it was something like 2270 and 2290 and so the average was 2280.

Deep.

But since this is basically just doing what the rating system is doing... you can tell when you're preforming better than your rating in a really simple way...

... when your rating goes up that day, then you preformed over your rating. That's literally how the rating system works. You do you better than expected it adjusts you up, and when you do worse it adjusts you down.

RorschachTest1

is this similar to the average opponent when winning average opponent when losing thing in the chess.com stats?

llama47

But for example, in my case, I found out I was scoring something like this...

Performance of 2150 vs 2000-2099 opponents
Performance of 2350 vs 2100-2199 opponents
Performance of 2150 vs 2200-2299 opponents

Which let me know I needed to stop trying so hard and just relax vs the 2000 players, and not get so unlucky vs the 2200s tongue.png (I had a silly losing streak). And also I was probably getting a little lucky in my games vs 2100 heh.

I guess... but since I do it for only the last few days and break it up by rating it gives better info IMO.
