I played the following game:

Help me. Somehow I have become retarded. I've played probably over 500+ games and I still suck. I do tactical puzzles and don't get much better. I can get a positional edge over my opponents early on, but at the end of the game I start to become retarded and play badly. After most of the games I review them too.

I use to be ranked 1500 something and have shrunk down to 1200ish which is a beginner. What the hell. How did I become so retarded?

In this game. I play seemingly flawless at the beginning except move 2 which was a slip of my finger. By move 18 I haven't really made any big mistakes that I can find. My position is significantly better. I should win this easily, but nope. Retard mode starts to switch on. On move 20 I miss a cool tactic, because I was focused too much on keeping my queen safe. *^&# me.

I spend forever on move 22 on whether to take the f7 pawn or move d6 to threaten rook. I eventually take the pawn which the computer tells me was wrong. On move 23 I #$^$ up again and trade queens. I don't know what to do. On 24 I protect my b-pawn, but apparently that was bad too for some reason. On 31 I miss the discovered attack. 32 I could have saved my rook with the bishop, but for some reason I became retarded and moved my rook instead. I developed a weird mentality that my bishop was frozen there. 33 same thing. After that I'm pretty much screwed.

How do I become good? Tactical puzzles don't do anything, because I know it is some weird move where I sacrifice a piece or a bunch of pieces to checkmate the enemy king. In real life though this doesn't happen often enough for it to be important. For example, the smother mate. I've never seen a smother mate opportunity. It just doesn't happen in any games.

Help me not be retarded. Please help!

I doubt you are playing any differently than usual. I don't think you had an easy win available at move 18. You did make some errors to lose the game but I wouldn't call the moves "retarded".

You state there is no point in doing tactics yet it seems that your peak rating came after a period in early 2015 where you made a large effort to do tactics.

The biggest tactic you missed was on move 21. 21. Nxd6 is precisely the kind of move you need to find in solving many tactics problems.
