I hate this opening...

I would like to know what the text book move is to this senario, if there are many possibilities, I would only like one.  If I actually played good, I would like to know....  Ty very much for your time, I play white.

Really, all I want to know is if there is a better way to go about this scenario....

My middle game is probably what did me in...

As you see, you can't force the Ruy. 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nf6 is called the petroff (or petrov) defense. You can find a lot of information on it online. Your move 3. Nxe5 is the most common. Your opponent's move 3. ... Qe7 is rare. 4. Nf3 is a good move, I think 4. d4 is also fine there. At the end of the line you showed it looks like white is doing fine.

This is the classic series of moves?

Yes, the later post is the more normal move order. In the original post, your moves were fine. I think I would have blocked the queen check with 5. Be2, preparing to castle, instead of trading queens. Then you can develop your other pieces with a gain of time by attacking the queen. For instance, developing your knight to c3 would force his queen to move from e4.

To be honest i just play 3.Nc3 and turn it into a 3 knights opening that way its simple development and i dont have to go and study it to much and of course it protects my e pawn. But what was shown above is the normal line i believe....Cool

Oh and when he plays Qe7 u would play either Nf3 or d4 first then Nf3

Very odd never seen that variation before but attacking the knight on move 4 dosent do much.
