Interesting Match of the Week

Those who know me know that I'm out of my comfort zone when playing closed and positional type of games. This is especially true in blitz games, where I favor open positions. Sometimes, however, my opponents kinda force me into those quiet games. I surprised myself with how well I played in the featured game, given that this was a 3 minute match where one slip could cost either player. Admittedly, much of my success in this game has to do with white's non-aggressive play, or (as you will see) white's failed attempt to bait my queen. Enjoy!

Nice game but a terrible resignation by your opponent IMO. If your extra pawn was passed or semi-passed as part of a queenside pawn majority then it would look pretty grim (still not always resignable) but your extra pawn is part of a kingside majority and on e6 so not advanced. White has good chances for the draw or even a win on time maybe.

White probably resigned because he just blundered a piece.

I completely agree with you. White should have made me win the game. The continuation would probably have gone something like this:

23...Nxe4  24. fxe4   Qxe2  25. Rxe2  f5!

I prefer 24... Qxe5.

This is not what I suggested... Please, read more carefully.
