depends if you are playing an unrated match it is a game but if you are playing rated then it is war
Chess is a Game of War? ? ?

@ happypi1314 & @ahmedabdullah
i think both of you are correct . . . It's a Ancient Game of War . . .

It's a war-like game. The foot soldiers and cavalry are present, awaiting battle. The King and Queen in their castle with their Bishops. The only combatants missing are the archers . . .

It is both and neither at the same time.
Chess is abstract enough to be used as any metaphor possible. Chess can represent war, politics, economy, life, chess could be society or anything that fits in the metaphor.

It’s only a game, but it forces me to engage in battle. With my own plots, tactics, plans, and mind. Well written Denver, a very witty way to communicate numerous thoughts on several levels. Thank you.
I think chess is a mental war and a physical one with pieces clashing and tactics, strategy and no-one giving up till the very end unless it is pointless, then the enemy can resign.

How I wish today's wars could be settled over a chess board instead of by killing. The poor innocent children who have lost their lives during this year alone. Breaks my heart.

I agree. But there is an element of beauty with the game aswell. Not to suggest war is beautiful, but just the observing of the pieces majestically moving across the board planning the perfect attack and the suspense. I find that captivating.
