Bishop pairs work best if the position is open, so to answer your question, in the example given I would say it is a very high price for a limited reward. I would be happy to play with the white pieces in such a game.

This is a game I played recently and I made a series of exchanges that would give my opponent an isolated queens pawn at the cost of giving up the bishop pair and opening up the position. Do you think its worth it for just a weak pawn?
Even if you think that dxc4 isn't the best move im just curious in general if this is a good principle to go by.
