Is my defence solid or just my opponent missed moves?

In this game I was mostly on the defense, I wonder if my defence is solid or my opponent just did not exploit my mistakes correctly.

I hope you can find my mistakes and what I could have done better here.

Not solid both sides, for 1400 points very good guys. Realy. White: 21 Qc2 is terrible. Is the queen planning  to go straight trough g6 on h7. :)

Why is 21 Ng8? a ?. realy.  What about black: Qc3 threat.

The opening is passive. btw. But that's a choice.

16. ..e6 looks like a mistake to me.  The knight is now pinned and I think white could have won it with 17. c4.  16. ..Bb7 would have been better.

Defend against what? Your opponent never got a strong attack going. 19...Kg7 just kicks the knight out and annihilates the .0000000000000004% chance White gets of attacking the king successfully.

21...Ng8 doesn't deserve a "?"

Your endgame technique was alright. Can't understand why you were so reluctant to trade queens, but you did end up trading them and winning the won endgame. Just being able to convert such positions into wins consistently will increase your rating by 100 points.

10.. Bxe5 Why not Nxe5. All reason to fianchetto is gone. But your a pawn up now.

It looks like nobody is interested in this open d file. Always (if posible) place a rook on this file. To reach 1500 you need at least to follow the basic tactics.

Do not block your own peaces. Yes 16..e6 is not the best. Because the bishop has to go to Bb7 anyway now. So why not strait away.

Try 7...e5 and not ...c5, which allowed White's e-pawn to surge forward. Keep your pieces active, Black must NOT be passive or you are asking to be squashed!  Best wishes, Tony Blades, British Coach & club player.
