I was trying to checkmate them not realizing Qxe6+ can be blocked in three different ways, but regardless this seems to be the correct move for white as there is probably a way to fork the king and the rook with Qc6 if they recapture the bishop then block the check.
So is it better for black to fxe6 Qxe6+ Ne7 or ignore the bishop and defend with Qe7 straight away? I know the two other ways to block Qxe6+ lose the knight, but I'm too inexperienced to see the continuation otherwise.
And you could have easily won this endgame that you drew yesterday. I won't post the exact method but all you need to do is to count how many moves it would take you to queen and count how many moves it would take black if you just let him take your knight. It would be better if you looked at it yourself.
The way you can say a sacrifice is good without calculation is seeing if you have 2 more pieces than they have defender. In the game black had the queen, bishop, and knight and you only have a queen based from what I remember. If you have 2 more attackers than they have defenders then and only then would I consider the sacrifice.
