This is the first game i bothered to computer analyze. I was surprised at the computer's comments and would like a 2nd opinion.

I dont think ill play anymore "online" chess i prefer the "Live" i get too stressed worried about losing a game that takes so much time to complete :P

Good idea Paul...

4.g4?! i am kind of proud of that pawn stayed there pretty much the whole game and stunted his development

11.Qxe3?! the "puter" really wants me to double up my pawns rather than enjoy those wonderful diagonals?

12.Bg2?! well of course im going to castle kingside the only place left for him to develop is queenside

14.c3?! i can feel his Queen's anxiety to check me lol

19. f4? this island looks mega cool "que no?"

20.Rd1?! alot happens around this pawn in the next few moves it needed to be better protected and it was worth losing the a2 pawn

22.Qf4? instead of d3 im not trying to be confrontational im trying to "judo"

25.d5 i felt like it was good i dont like the "puter's" suggestion... what do you think?

27.Qd4? computer still wants me to fight queenside is the suggested lines really "better"

30.Qg4? still positioning not confronting pushing the pawn negates what ive worked so hard for

31.Kg2? saves a lot of checking and possibly pinning

32.Rd6? restricts the queens ability to move adds pressure to the rank i thought long and hard about that one...

36.Qf4?! i had a lot of options in all preferable scenarios i liked this one best

41. ...Rf8? i was surprised and a little disappointed BUT HERES THE REAL QUESTION COULD I HAVE STILL WON IF HE HAD DONE SOMETHING ELSE?

I felt like i had a tangible advantage with position and development and i was determined to ride it out to the end but the whole game it looks like the computer disagreed ... does anybody recognize my tactic as a particular stratagy style or any simularities with something else i can study to understand why i played what i did?

Thanks :)

Thanks Paul! all good stuff! i read through and thought thru considerably, i appreciate the help :)

Question: at move 40 would you rather be black or white?

Be cautious of advaning your g-pawn so early. It's a very commital move and your king might yell at you if you castle kingside. :)

Well, at your level of play you do not really need to look at what the computer calls "inaccuracies" as you won't understand it, just look for "mistakes" and "blunders" that reveals either tactical mistake or big positional mistake (e.g. trading a knight versus a bishop that couldn't go anywhere in a very closed position).

I mean no offense (after all I was a beginner also), it is just that if you try to understand all subtle points at first you will get lost. Focus on the simple points first.

At move 40, I would prefer Black because of his additional pawn (and its placement) while White has nothing serious, but anyway the game should end in a draw as the kings are way too insecure with queens on the board. The computer's analysis of 40...b5 doesn't satisfy me because Black has the queens exchanged, which White should avoid by all means (the rook endgame with two black connected passed pawns will give White much trouble).
