Mate with R+B or add a Q?

I put a game into Stockfish and it calculated getting a queen instead of trying to mate with existing pieces on the board. Is this common? It seems like a human move to do this, but considering engines like material maybe not. What is the reasoning to get a queen besides a human not wanting to think?
