Why don't you instead play d3 or d4?
1. d3/d4 are space-gainers in the center. Actually d3 is slightly more precise in my opinion since it protects the e pawn and the light bishop.
2. You can now easily develop your dark bishop. Remember always to develop ALL your pieces and take the king to safety first, then concentrate on an attack.
3. h6 makes castling kingside very unsafe, as it weakens g3 and creates the possibility of an open h file if the pawn is somehow captured ( if you decide to castle kingside, the rook won't be protecting the pawn anymore ).
However, if you are more comfortable castling queenside and then attacking with the kingside pawns it can be a move that suits your objectives.
Note this seems to only work against quite weak opponents, so maybe I should even be doing it at all. Certainly it can be refuted fairly easily, but these ways seem to be often missed.
This is something I've used if my opponent does not play kf6,but rather does something odd like Qf6,or another move. This prevents me from making kg5.However, if I play h4 on my 4th move this will allow me to play kg5 and the attack is back on.Then your opponent can play something like d5 but quite weak opponents often don't, or in blitz games, this seems to be missed sometimes as well.
I've attached a recent gmae below that explains what I'm talking about. My question is; Is there any reason to ever play h4, or should I just drop it altogether.I did win this game, despite letting it get away initially with some bad mistakes, that I attribute to sleep deprivation ;)
Any comments are welcomed.
