What are your guys' thoughts on the game?

Playing d4 when we're not yet castled feels like a strategic mistake. You don't want to open up with your king in the middle. I'm not using an engine, but 14. ...g5, 15. Bg3, exd4 16. cxd4, Bxc4 17. Qxc4, Nxe4 seems like a problem and if you take on e6, black can take with the f-pawn and take over the center. For the rest a well played game.

Thank you for the insight! So the key lesson is before opening up the center I should make sure that my king first is safe? And also on move 12 I should instead play castles instead of the useless h3.

I mean, you lost a piece in the opening, so nothing much to look at. White should've won, didn't convert. Then you should've won the endgame, but that's more difficult than white's position. I wouldn't worry overly much about not converting the endgame at your level, but if you find yourself in these rook endgames more often, it might be time to start taking a deeper look into these endgames.

Another game!!

Really disappointed. But hey, everyone makes mistakes. The important part is we learn from those said mistakes to reduce them in the future.

Don't think I like the pushing of the kingside pawns when black can just trade off the bishops. After Bh5 I'd have played Nf4 therefore. Apart from that, it's all about tactics. Doesn't 16. cxb4 work? And it's a clear error not finding Bc1 in the end. Bc1 is a move that attacks a piece worth more, so it's a clear tactical candidate move and should be found. Over the next few games, look to see if you're actually seeing and calculating all the tactical moves that you should be.

I BEAT A 2K PLAYER!!!

What do you guys think of the game?

I’m in no position to comment as an 1100, but it feels like there was way too much trading allowed by Black. Definitely not their strongest game happy.png

very true. After so many defeats playing against the Scotch gambit, I finally knew how to handle it.
