The time rules for this game were 12min/3sec.

Ack, after looking at it I realized I can win this end game. But still, help in previous positions would be helpful. How embarassing, although I did only have one minute left :(

Why not 7.. d3 rather then 7..f3?

I think that would of protected your King better. And, allowed you to develop your bishop.

Classic Blitz game. As for opening, the reason we don,t see 3...Nd4 very often - in my understanding - is because of 4 Nxe4! If 4...Qe7 (locking in B) 5 f4 is good.

Rickder19

Ah, I didn't even see the hanging pawn on move 4 and f3 would have been better too.

Dmasta

Actually, 4. Nxe4 is a mistake, as it leads to an unfortunate position for white.  Take a look at the diagram.

davidetal

Dmasta - if Black tries Qg5, I think White's response is this:

Sas3

David, Ogenki,

What if black responds with 5. ...Nxc2+ (to 5. Ng4)?

6. Qxc2 Qxg4 7. 0-0 is not too bad for white? Black regains the pawn it lost on e5, but is a bit behind on development; plus, white has the center (for now)?

Is there is anyway white can refute 3. ...Nd4 more forcefully?

Rickder19

Come to think of it, I've played this trap a few times. It's also known as the "Costage Trap". Taking on e5 ends up losing the g7 pawn, as Nf4 leads to d4, attacking white's bishop and knight. What do you guys suggest white do after this variation?

And here's the endgame solution for anyone who is curious

Rickder19 I would rather go for this endgame:

I just feel that your endgame has some dubious moves while this is almost forced.

In the end game I displayed, whether black moves his king or pawn, white can win by force, although yours has less complications I suppose.
