Playing g5 as black, or b4?

b4 first to fix the pawn structure on the queenside and to make sure that White can't create counterplay by playing b4 (and d4 later) which leads to open files and weak black pawns.

After that you can continue with your kingside attack g5-g4-g3, swing a rook over if necessary. White can just sit and wait because the center and queenside are closed.

I was thinking of something like this:

Yes petal you are giving great advise to the OP. The only thing I can suggest to the OP is to get his stockfish to the repair shop, because it only sees the first ply in a position, and never the variations calculating. Must be very fustrating for the poor lamb having to deal with a broken stockfish all these years tear.png

Then show us these "variations calculating". You would think someone from England would know English better.

what I can see is ...g5 plans to kick the knight (g4) and then play g3, after they move h3 you sac the bishop and mate.

Copy from my previous post.

There is no mate or lose piece after g5.( g5 is a good move though)

21. g5 Ng1

22. g4 Rc2

23. g3 h3 ( You cant sacrifice bishop on h3 because it is double protected with g pawn and kt).

Ok I didn’t read any post except for op

sndeww

Huh? No I’m not

Oh dang

g5!! is winning on the spot, because white must give a minor, or allow a very strong initative. I checked this with the computer afterwards, and b4 also wins, but it is worse than g5

In my opinion, I would favor g5 because then white has a harder time attacking white's kingside as opposed to b4 which just opens up the position even more and creates opportunities for white to attack.

how does white play g5?

of course white has a harder time attacking white's kingside- it's the same team
