Playing the IMPOSSIBLE computer -- Why do I suck?

So, I'm not that great and I know it. But I almost always beat the medium computer and I sometimes beat the hard computer. So I tried playing the IMPOSSIBLE computer. I know it is tactically unbeatable, but I still wanted to try.

First, I tried a few games, playing like I'd normally play. It was horrific. It would just find these killer moves no matter what. So, I decided I'd play the safest and dullest game possible. I would take no risks, do the most conventional opening I could think of, and just try to defend. I'd trade at every opportunity to make the game simpler. Eventually, it cracked me. Here's how it went:

So, how do I even get to the place where I can begin to draw it?

My guess is that you must improve a bit. Smile

@OP: I think you simply need more practice against other opponents, such as the Hard difficulty. You only "sometimes" beat it. To compete against Impossible, you must consistently win against the Hard mode.

Taking no risks has the obvious drawback that the computer's edgier play will confuse most humans. Also, risk-free play tends to be passive play, which almost never wins chess games.

"Undeveloping" your pieces at moves 23 and 24 is a case in point. The computer had all active pieces, and you deactivated yours. You were already at a disadvantage; cowering in a corner, so to speak, had no chance to work.

Persistence and perseverance are needed.

Well, your fourth move already is featured in every beginners book, and is rightly considered secondclass, because after 4...Nxe4 Black has a very easy game.

6.Qe2 is the first major concession: White surrenders the bishop pair to Black for nothing.

At move ten Black is already a bit better (that pair of bishops...) but 11.c3? which leaves the d-pawn very weak, makes matters easier for him.
