Please have a look at my analysis

Good day,

About a month ago I started playing chess. This will be my first topic on this forum, so I hope everything goes well.

I wonder if anyone can have a look at my analysis of today's game. Of course I know my opponent made a huge blunder the last move, but I am interested in some feedback on my analysis (i.e. not specifically the game itself). Do I look at the moves the right way? Any thoughts (helpful tips, websites, videos or whatever) are much appreciated.

The variations and game scores have been added using Scid - Toga II.

I have also got two questions about Scid. First of all, is it possible to show captured pieces? I have found the option 'show material values', but this does not show all captured pieces. Furthermore, is it possible to play a customized setup against the computer using Scid?

Thank you in advance!

I'd say that after move 9 the game is blacks. However I remember playing as a 1000,  and although positional i would be up 3 points or pawns I would still lose or draw.

If you having trouble knowing what to do playing a move that requires a bit of calculation is probably not the best thing to do.  9 ... d5 seems like something I would do in a 1 minute bullet when things seems hopeless and I'm trying to get back on time.

I thought the game was going to be longer so I broke up my thoughts in paragraphs each time when I accross a move I wanted to write about. I think that you defended against the opening well but during the mid game when there was not an "easy attack" you started to lose that "fuel". The computer analysis is right however- For most of the game Black had a great edge.

Looks like it's more the computer's analysis than your analysis...

5.e4 should have been the first move.  Instead he wanted to try the Scholar's mate and didn't want to have to defend 1.e4.  Scholar's mate failed (of course) and now he realizes e4 is a better square for the e-pawn but that ship sailed imo.  Essentially white's fifth move is a wasted turn and I think that is why the engine complains.  After white's fifth move, white can't attack e5 with Nf3- perhaps 5...Bg7 fianchettoing bishop would be better?  On 9.Kd2, the engine indicates a minor piece advantage to black.  Such a jump indicates black WILL take a minor piece if he plays correctly.  Scores jumping like this can't be just positional.

On the 9... Nxe4+ variant towards the end, why not push the attack with ...Be2 then ...Ne2 going for the fork?

I liked how you viewed the variants though to figure out what should have been done.

In regards to your scid question: perhaps the scid would be able to help? http://www.chess.com/groups/view/scid-users

One of the most memorable instances of this was on a Jrobi video I saw on youtube.

He was making all sorts of inane comments and then says "here's how play could have continued" and gives an obvious computer line with wild tactics completely unlike anything he had been showing and unrelated to the themes he had been discussing.

The punchline was at the end of this 15 move silicon variation he comments "and I like the way the knights are in a little square" I laughed out loud.

heehee!...is that that Professor Backwards guy (or whatever his name is)?

No, this was a different guy.  To be fair I heard  his later videos were less nauseating, but I never watched more than 1 and a half and didn't want to see anymore.

[edit] oh and this guy played it straight unlike the backyard professor who is quirky and goofy for fun.

Thank you for posting the enjoyable tactic-filled game.  You know what would have been quite the threat?  Move Six, Queen to b3. (6. Qb3)  This forms a Queen-bishop battery on the light a2-g8 diagonal, aiming right at the f7 square when the Black King hasn't castled yet (and cannot castle).  Try it sometime.

Your analysis of your 4...Nf6: "Developing a piece, no further intensions really". It actually saved you from a mate by 5 Qf7+#

Why not 3...d5? Black should already have the advantage.
