It was a solid game but on move 24 you missed knight to c7, forking the king, queen, and rook. Still, good playing.

Analysis doesn't always account for the psychology of the game. A lot of these moves are pressuring and forcing moves, keeping your opponent off balance. Really good!

This was a game I played recently. It changed my entire outlook on the game, and in a similar situation to @shloksinha, I think it's one of my best, whereas the computer says it's sub-par. The reason I say this is my favorite game, the game I'm most proud of, is because it got me from being stuck at 1000 for years, to breaking the fourth wall and now I'm 1200 and climbing.

Feel free to comment on how bad my play was. I know it definitely wasn't a great game, but it had a tremendous psychological effect on me.

Probably this one, though I did miss a mate in 1 due to time

Great game Mr_Wolverine! I see you also go nuts in no increment time scrambles, and they're why I always play 15|10 when playing rapid now. Here's a similar game I'm also very proud of, despite all the missed wins near the end. This one was 10|0, before I switched. This game had the same effect on me as yours did on you. My rating didn't climb right away, though.

I won on time, though I would have checkmated in a couple of moves. This was vs a 1700 player! I was blackhappy.png

I play blitz and rapid. I like blitz more though, because I most of the time play during work or school, and 5/0 allows me to fit in chess games before class starts or in between customers.

@Mr_Wolverine Congratulations on winning that endgame with such low time. The art of endgame pre-moving is a satisfying and vital skill to learn. I do have some thoughts on your opening but keep in mind I'm only around 1500 rapid so take it with a grain of salt. On move 6. ...d4, I wouldn't actually push here, the main reason being that you need to develop your other pieces. Also, generally speaking when you have a really solid pawn structure like two in a row, or in your case three, you want to keep them there and slowly build up the power and positioning of your pieces behind them. Only pushing the pawns when doing so will lead to a positional or tactical advantage, or not doing so will lead to your disadvantage. The next move 7. ...f4 I would say is an inaccuracy because while I don't recommend the previous move, it did create a nice pawn chain from g7-d4 and it's supported by the c pawn. The move f4 weakens the pawn structure by breaking the pawn chain and opens up your position which can be dangerous when your lagging in development. At this point instead you should focus on development and castling, probably to the king side. Naturally, the position would feel a bit cramped which can be hard to play around if you don't know how. Alternatively, before your move 5. ...f6 I would recommend to start developing your pieces like Nf6, Be7, etc. f6 Isn't bad but it does cramp your position a little by blocking the queen and the main square for the knight, and your dark bishopes range is already limited by the c pawn.

The missed mate in two was pretty unfortunate but a good reason to improve your checkmate pattern recognition, no worries though it happens. Overall nice game and good luck on your journey climbing the rating ladder.

I played this game on another account when the Beth Harmon bot was still here. I was really proud of it because it was the highest level I was able to beat her at. The computer seems to have blundered by taking my pawn on move 12. I also could have mated faster in the end probably. My queen getting on the g2-a7 diagonal and x-raying the king during the transition to the middle game is what really did my opponent in. It won me two minor pieces and an exchange. The AI could have handled it in many ways that I think would have been better.

Thank you, @GenocidalPawn. You're advice was very helpful for me.

My first win against the bot Vishy (2800).

My recent game in the themantic Halloween Gambit tournament for three reasons.

  1. I won against all odds. My oponent was ~400 points higher rated than I and black has an objective advantage out of the opening (I was playing white).
  2. It was a fairly accurate game.
  3. It was won via an exchange sacrifice and it ended in mate.

My proudest win so far. On move 16, my opponent tried using his rook as bait to deflect the only defender of my weak e pawn. Sadly for them, the move I found next sends the message that I am not one to fool. (I also had no blunders and at the very least just 1 small mistake)

This game is the one that I have played recently that I am proudest of, mostly because of the ending combination. How often do you get to underpromote twice on the same square?

Beat someone 400 points higher than me in rapid

I only started properly in January so I don't have much of an archive to go into here...but I'm very proud of this most recent win.

It's round two of a tournament game and my opponent gave me a solid kicking in round one so they're a decent player and gave me a really interesting couple of games!

What I'm most proud of here though is that I formulated a clear strategy (attack F1-H3 & compromise their defenses), maintained a decent tempo, turned down what felt like natural moves for longer plans, abandoned rooks and calculated an end game strategy. As somebody quite new to playing the game (properly) it just felt like this was a game where I'd made some real progress in my approach and was starting to apply lessons and knowledge into my game.

As with others' comments - feel free to criticise or let me know if I missed anything! I'd love to know if there's anything else I could learn from this...

Although the idea of not trading material when attacking is a good one, if you're UP material, then trade away. Being up that Exchange is enough to win.
