Really rough game for me. Any help would be appreciated (especially endgame).

Hey guys, first time posting. I've recently gotten into chess and have been focusing heavily on my tactical play. This has helped (although I still make massive blunders) but it seems that my strategic game is severely lacking, especially in the endgame.

If you guys wouldn't mind going over my game I would really appreciate it. I fell apart really hard at the end when I didn't know what to do (even with a massive lead) so if you could focus on that possibly I would really appreciate it! Thanks.

At that point bring your king toward the opponent's king so it can support your queen. With the K+Q working together you can force his king to the edge soon and mate.

To answer your question about the bishop sac - No, it is not sound. But people sometimes do that in blitz games hoping you'll blunder with your king in the open. Same concept as early queen sorties - the only way for that to work for them is if their opponent makes mistakes and doesn't develop. When your opponent comes out with their queen early, it's important to develop as normally as possible. Get your pieces out! kick the queen around as much as possible while you do it, but play developing moves only. For example.. 8...Nxe4... why not ...e5 instead. Open lanes for your bishop and Q, while protecting your central pawn.. Once you are developed, you'll be able to take his hanging pieces without compromising your own position.. When you're ahead in material, you still need to play prophylactically, and develop before you attack.

Thanks for the advice everyone!

I didn't even notice 37...qe4 so thanks for pointing that out as I often overlook moves involving pawns.

The time control was 30 min (I don't play blitz yet) and I had about 5 minutes left when I gave up my queen. Playing slowly for no reason definitely bites me back later so I'll definitely work on that.

I read a lot about endgames after this (and the next 2 games I lost which were pretty much identical) and I think I just start playing way too loose with a lead, leaving a ton of pieces hanging.

I'll keep working on my game and next time I post year it'll be something much less tragic to watch!

Cheers.
