It was definitely sound. It looks to me like Black had to lose his queen as a result.
You may have had another good sacrifice even earlier, though I didn't analyze it: 23. Bxg6 fxg5 24. fxg5 with a lot of lines suddenly open around Black's king, say with a follow-up like Bh7, Qg6+, Rf7.
Hello,
This is my first post on this forum:) I've been coming in and out of chess for the past few years due to work. Recently, while playing a few games, I was reminded of this position that arose last year in one of my team chess games. I remembered this clearly because:
1. One of my first team chess games which I joined on move 27. Rxh3
2. The position for us (black) was quite passive. Although we were a pawn up, I didn't like this position and was convinced we were going to lose (gut instict, I couldn't read that far ahead! Although we did lose a few moves later as we shall see...)
3. Since my motto in chess is: "when in doubt, complicate matters" I suggested the exchange sacrifice but no one believed me :( Well, I missed out 26. Kg2 so... Anyways I was just wondering if it would have been right or wrong, any thoughts?
