Can anyone tell me how accurate Stockfish is when it assigns rating such as 1500, 2000 etc. to your game performance? Secondly what formula does it use to do this? It appears to be extremely generous with those ratings perhaps by plus 400 points.

The algorithm for the review Report Card hasn't had any real information released. It does use player ratings as part of the calculation and is an estimate. It will likely improve as time goes on but is an estimate and shouldn't be taken too seriously.

Why is there no Player performance rating when a study is imported to Stockfish only accuracy analysis? However if I download a pgn I do get game perf ratings?

The PGN needs ratings to generate the estimated performance rating.

If the match is too lopsided then it usually is not accurate. But if both opponents are equal in strength and rating then that tends to be more accurate (like no blunders, few mistakes like 0-3 and 4 inaccuracies) then I think it should be an accurate estimate elo to your current elo or perhaps slightly higher.

But I don’t know, because if both players played like 5+ book moves then played like mostly best moves and excellent moves with few good moves/ inaccuracies and 0-1 mistakes and no blunders then could possibly be estimated at a higher rating.
