The Final Showdown Once and For all!

[Solved]: Bishops are Superior. 80% Of The Time. Even One On One Lone Bishop Vs Lone Knight. - Bishops are finally more powerful then Knights!

[Last Thing]: I've added 2 Games (Fair Game No Editing)

White Versus Black - Houdini (3000 ELO) Favours Winning with White, probably because of time restrictions but even without that, It still favours Bishops as you can see in the next two games.

and one more:

[Reality]: The Most Probable Outcome is either Black or White, Bishop or Knight, a DRAW is the most probable out come, if not the Bishops usually win.

[Notice]: Give me any example of The Knights so called "Dominating the Bishop" and I'll show you how the Bishop can win or DRAW. Fact of the matter is; 1 Bishop vs 1 Knight = Draw. 2 Bishops vs 2 Knights = Bishops win if played correctly.{ Has to be fair. example: 5 Pawns Black 5 Pawns White,Two Knights vs Two Bishops } - I'm going to finally end this once and for all.

I have been furious lately thinking about what so many people have asked me:

Bishops or Knights?

I had no real way of measuring what one was better, I just preferred Knights at the time, however; I thought I could get a rough or average of which piece outperformed the other; So you will a few games where The Bishops ALWAYS Won against the Knights ( We Used A Computer Chess Engine Houdini Vs Houdini The Best Chess Engine on Earth ELO Rating: 3000+ )

There is also a match where It's 1 Knight vs 1 Bishop (Bishop Still Wins)

Tell me what you Think?

Fair or not? - Let Me Know! - Also: Which do you prefer? Bishops or Knights? - And Why? :)

Knight x1 vs Bishop x1 (5minutes)

Bishops Vs Knights (40 Minutes)

Knights Vs Bishops (40 Minutes)

Another 40 Minute Game.

Even another 40 minute game.

A Short 20 Minute Game.

Even Another 20 Minute Game.

We'd love to hear what you think of these results and improvements/What-you-Think :)

I think it depends on the postition. Knights are better in closed postions. Bishops are better in open postions.

htdavidht

IT seams that the answer depends on the pown structure, for in some of the it is better to have a knigth than a bishop, here 3 examples from Capablanca's "Chess Fundamentals"

Position 1 knigth wins, sosition 2 draw position 3 bishop wins.

Lets Put It This Way. Put in a Fair Scenario (1 Bishop vs 1 Knight) Any Setup you like as long as they have the same number or pieces and I'll tell you how the Bishop will WIN or Draw at least. :) - Bishops will prevail. Don't believe me? Come on! -  Give me an example and I'll show you how the Bishops would win it :)

Well, the Black knight takes the pawn and the pawns get Two Queens then Checkmate, but Remember, No one would ever get into this situation, Boxing one King and Bishop in, not to mention, You could still draw with this position.

This time have 2 Bishops vs 2 Knights :)

Next Please.

Not to mention it is unfair considering One is hindered has the ability to do nothing, the other is free to move. So in turn you are favouring a piece, and no one would get into that situation because it's just silly.

In apteryx diagrams the side with the knight should win both positions easily.

Black could probably win this position.

Yes Black would win but its unfair, because Black can take a piece that White can't defend and then the other pawn on the other side can be taken as well. - Unfair; and no one would ever have a pawn structure like this not even novices, it's just plain stupid, unpractical, isn't going to happen and you can still force a draw. Result here = Even in Unfair Situations the Bishop wins a DRAW :)

White was always slightly better until blundering.

What game did White Blunder in?

browni3141

ResignAlready, of course their are positions where a knight is better than a bishop.

You say that white can still draw in smiley's diagrams. You are right that they are unfair becuase they start with a knight being able to win a pawn, but you still say they are drawn. Post a proof.

Overall a Bishop out performs a Knight 80% of the time, and test it yourself put the Position into a Good Chess Engine. You'll see that Either The Knight will win or The Bishop will pull a draw :)

Where is this "80%" coming from?

Ill give you two and still win.

That position could be drawn. Black wins the e2 pawn. Stalemate.
