Also, why would you resign when you are only down the exchange and the opponent is 500-rated?

That's my dad, he is a very strong opponent but he just doesn't play rated games on the website(he playes only unrated against me ). I always estimated his strength at around 1000-1200 rapid. I resigned because I didn't want to continue the game after such a blunder and, well...losing to the father is an honor
