Why can a move be the best move when it accomplishes nothing?

When working chess puzzles I am often annoyed when the solution includes a move that I considered but rejected because it accomplished nothing. Why can a "best" move be one that accomplishes nothing? An example might be a check that is easily blocked.

I also really don’t like it when the answer to a puzzle accomplishes nothing

Blocking a check can result in a piece moving away from where it should be and/or becoming pinned. Such a move may have long-term benefit or lead to a follow-up.

I wish you would post some examples. I have you considered that maybe you aren’t really understanding the solution
