Why did my opponent resign?

I would like someone to explain to me why my opponent resigned when i actually believe that he had the positional advantage and overall edge, also i would appreciate someone who would analyze this and give me some tips/advice on what i could do to further better myself as a chess player.

maybe he had a docters appointment and didn't have time to finish the game.

I don't know if you've seen any games of gm level, but you'll realize 2 pawns down is enough to make them resign,

I did notice; however he did have the possiblity of mate, therefore i do believe that the resignation was unnecassary and he had alot of possiblilities when it came to capitalizing on the current position.

Your opponent resigned for the same reason anyone resigns ...

to become a silver medalist.

Your opponent did not have any moves to play. You, being 5 points up, would be able to sacrifice material to stop attacks. Even though his pawn looks dangerous, it is actually not as he cannot push it any further. With right play, it would be a win for white.
