Analysis shows Kd8 as the preferred move
Not for me. Kd8 is the second preferred. Qxd6 is first preferred.
Just count the material.
13...Qxd6 14 Bxd6 Bxd6 Black has NNB for QP and can still castle.
13...Kd8 14 Qb3 cxd4 15 exd4 Nb6 16 Nf7+ Ke8 17 Nxh8 Black has B for RP and can no longer castle
I've found the analysis feature to occasionally be schizophrenic. Sometimes, it will indicate that X is the best move. When I make the move, it labels it an inaccuracy, and list Y as the best move. There have been times when I run the analysis twice and get two different answers. Just another quirk in the programming I guess.

That's true of standalone engines as well, in some types of positions.
After changing the engine to Stockfish 16, Depth unchanged, Kd8 is the best move.
In general I find that the engine might like the position after several moves further, but very few humans are going to say, "Hmm, Queen for Knight and Bishop, sure!"
